On an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch, if you search under iBooks for Children’s and Teens books you will mostly find results of novels that are read by teens.  However, if you search under Books in the App store you will get very different results.  Many of the books that you will find in the New & Noteworthy and 10 Essentials are actually interactive eBooks perfect for elementary-aged children.  Some of the most popular eBooks found on the results page are: The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore, PopOut! The Tale of Peter Rabbit, and Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty 3D Interative Pop-up Book, and Man in Space.

Pop-up Books (day 1)

Sleeping Beauty and The Tale of Peter Rabbit are both digital pop-up books.  Both books include the ability to have music, narration, and sounds effects.  There are three different story options to either have the book read aloud, read with assistance by just pushing on words to hear them read aloud, or the story can be read independently.  There are games, puzzles, or touch and drag elements that are woven throughout to make the story come to life.   They are also available in multiple languages.

Additional Grimm’s Fairy Tales have also been turned into interactive pop-up eBooks including Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Hansel & Gretel, and Cinderella.  Additional PopOut! Books include The Tale of Benjamin Bunny, The Night Before Christmas, and The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin.
