Best Summer Books 2016

Finding the best summer books isn’t always easy to do.  This post will list for you the best summer books 2016 to help you make the search a little easier. Suggested or required summer reading assignments are traditionally made by teachers and schools to encourage children to remain active in their learning. Reading 20 minutes a day helps to build literacy and vocabulary skills along with connections to increase overall academic performance. Those 20 minutes can be spent this summer reading some fun engaging new novels published this year. Here is a list of best summer books 2016:

  • The Thank You Book by Mo Willems, was released at the beginning of May. This is the final book in the Elephant and Piggie early-reader series, a popular collection of books written by author. This book thanks all of the supporting characters from all of the other novels – a great ending to a fantastic series.
  • Our Great Big Backyard is wonderful summer book that is written by Laura Bush and Jenna Bush Hager and was also released at the beginning of May. This book was written as a tribute to the 100th anniversary of our National Parks and would be a great way to connect reading and your road trips this summer.
  • Rick Riordan just released a new first book in the new series called The Trials of Apollo, Book 1: The Hidden Oracle. This popular tween author’s books are based upon Greek Mythology and are quick reads that young, independent readers absorb eagerly. This book is just as engaging as all of his previous books and includes more connections to this younger generation.
